Neil Young has reunited with three of his on-and-off Crazy Horse backing band members for a new folk-rock album, which they will release under the moniker Molina, Talbot, Lofgren & Young. The upcoming album is titled All Roads Lead Home and features ten tracks, with songwriting credits shared by all four members. The project started as a pandemic project for Ralph Molina, Billy Talbot, and Nils Lofgren, before Young later joined the group. The album is set to be released at the end of March.
The first preview of the album is a Lofgren-led track called “You Will Never Know,” which was released recently. The song is a slow-shuffling, stripped-back folk number with a gentle groove and subtle instrumentation. Lofgren’s vocals are soft and understated, adding to the song’s emotional weight.
The members of Molina, Talbot, Lofgren & Young have a long history together. Ralph Molina and Billy Talbot are both original members of Crazy Horse, Neil Young’s backing band since the late 1960s. Nils Lofgren has played with the band at various points throughout its history, and he also played with Young on his 1970 album, After the Gold Rush.
The new project brings these musicians back together after years of separate projects and solo work. All Roads Lead Home promises to be an exciting reunion for fans of the artists, with a focus on collaboration and songwriting.
For Young, this project comes hot on the heels of his last album, Barn, which was also recorded with Crazy Horse and released last year. It seems that, despite the challenges of the pandemic, he has been able to maintain his creative energy and output with these new projects.
With “You Will Never Know,” Molina, Talbot, Lofgren & Young offer a glimpse into what we can expect from their forthcoming album. The song’s gentle and introspective mood suggests a focus on heartfelt storytelling and emotional depth. Fans of Neil Young and Crazy Horse will no doubt be excited to hear what the full album has in store when it is released later this year.
